Generate a Google Maps API Key

To generate a Google Maps API key follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Google Platform Console.

  2. From the Project drop-down menu on the navigation bar, select the Project Name you have created.

  3. Expand the navigation menu in the navigation bar and select APIs & Services > Credentials.

  4. On the Credentials page, select Create Credentials > API Key.

  5. In the API Key Created dialog, select Restrict Key .

    It is best practice to restrict the API key to prevent unauthorised use or theft.

You can restrict an existing key as follows:

  1. On the Credentials page, select the name of the API Key.

  2. Set the Application and API restrictions:

    1. Under Application Restrictions, select HTTP Referrers (web sites).

      1. Under Website Restrictions, select Add An Item and repeat this process to enter the URLs for all WebAdmin environments e.g. Live, Test, Development.

    2. Under API Restrictions, select Don’t Restrict Key – this section does not need to be completed.

  3. Select Save.
