Background Job Settings

You can configure background job settings for Worlds to:

  • Customise how your jobs are dispatched.

  • Define how often the Mendel plan applier background process runs, and what checks it performs before applying plans.

  • Define parameters for the Automatic Appointment Booking process.

  • Set up automatic commit processes for SLA-related jobs and standard jobs.

  1. In WebAdmin select Optimise Admin.

    The Optimise Admin page appears.

  2. Select a World.

    The World Settings and Permissions page appears.

  3. In the Settings section, select Background Job Settings.

    The Background Job Settings dialog appears.

    To view or hide the explanatory notes on this dialog, select Toggle Notes .

  4. Select Edit Settings .

    When this dialog is in Edit mode and these settings have previously been edited, a Version dropdown is displayed at the top of the dialog. Select an option from the dropdown to view the settings from a previous version.

  5. Select and define the following settings as required.

    Job Dispatch

    Background Process

    Enables or disables the Job Dispatch background process, which dispatches scheduled jobs to resources as visits.

    Interval

    Defines how often the Job Dispatch background process runs. Enter a value in minutes.

    Hours in Advance

    Defines how many hours in advance a job is dispatched before its start time. Enter a value in hours.

    Batch size

    Defines the maximum number of jobs that will be dispatched when the background process runs.

    Mendel Plan Applier*

    Background Process

    Enables or disables the Mendel Plan Applier background process, which queries Mendel to see if a new plan is available. If so, then the plan is fetched and applied to Dynamic Scheduling.

    Interval

    Defines how often the Mendel Plan Applier background process runs. Enter a value in minutes.

    Throttle

    Defines the minimum period of time (in minutes) between plans being applied. If Mendel publishes a plan within the specified throttle time, the plan will not be applied. This prevents the application of multiple updates within short time periods.

    Mendel Plan Applier Checks*

    Job Commits

    Defines whether or not the Mendel Plan Applier checks job commits before accepting a plan. If set to Yes, this indicates a fresh plan will be required due to the job commits.

    Job Dispatches

    Defines whether or not the Mendel Plan Applier checks job dispatches before accepting a plan. If set to Yes, this indicates a fresh plan will be required due to the job dispatched.

    Job Resets

    Defines whether or not the Mendel Plan Applier checks job resets and recalls before accepting a plan. If set to Yes, this indicates a fresh plan will be required due to the job resets.

    Job Commits

    Defines whether or not the Mendel Plan Applier checks job decommits before accepting a plan. If set to Yes, this indicates a fresh plan will be required due to the job decommits.

    Resource Capacity Calculation

    Background Process

    Enables or disables the Resource Capacity Calculation background process, which is used for the Resource Capacity Utilisation widget. For more details refer to Widget Definitions in the Dashboard User Guide.

    Interval

    Defines how often the Resource Capacity background process runs. Enter a value in minutes.

    Number of Days

    Defines the number of days the resource capacity is calculated for. Enter a value in days.

    Automatic Appointment Booking*

    Background Process

    Enables or disables the Automatic Appointment Booking background process, which applies appointments to jobs. For more details refer to Automatic Appointment Booking in the Schedule User Guide.

    Time

    Defines the time of day when the Automatic Appointment Booking background process runs. Select this option if you want the background process to run once a day. If the World has a time zone configured, the process runs at the specified time in that time zone.

    Interval

    Defines how often the Automatic Appointment Booking background process runs. If selected, this option overrides the Time setting. Enter a value in minutes.

    Automatic Commit*

    Background Process

    Enables or disables the Automatic Commit background process, which automatically commits jobs (effectively locking them into place) based on the defined settings below. For more details refer to Commit Jobs in the Schedule User Guide.

    Interval

    Defines how often the Automatic Commit background process runs. Enter a value in minutes.

    Hours in Advance

    Defines the number of hours before the job's start time that it is committed. Any job scheduled to start within the Hours In Advance window is committed and cannot be rescheduled.

    Batch size

    Defines the maximum number of jobs that will be committed when the background process runs.

    SLA Automatic Commit*

    Background Process

    Enables or disables the SLA Automatic Commit background process, which automatically commits jobs that match the contract and work type details defined for a customer SLA based on the defined settings below. For more details refer to SLA Details.

    Interval

    Defines how often the SLA Automatic Commit background process runs. Enter a value in minutes.

    Hours in Advance

    Defines the number of hours before the job's required notification time that it is committed. Any job with a calculated notification time within the Hours In Advance window is committed. This means the job's notification can be sent to the customer according to the SLA requirements, with the assurance that it won't be moved and require further notifications.

    Batch size

    Defines the maximum number of SLA-related jobs that will be committed when the background process runs.

    * Enterprise and Cloud Worlds only.

    Each section in the Background Job Settings dialog includes a Scheduling field. If you do not want the process to run 24 hours a day based on the Interval you define, this field enables you to add further scheduling criteria based on cron expressions, to further refine when the process runs.   6. Select Save.

  7. Enter a reason for the edits, then select Confirm.
